Dane County Treasurer's Office

December 2025 property tax bills have been calculated. The due date for 2025 property taxes is January 31, 2026.

If you have not received your property tax bill, Dane County property owners can check Access Dane (https://accessdane.danecounty.gov) or contact their local City, Village, or Town treasurer for tax information. The local treasurer will collect 2025 property taxes through the January 31 due date. Access Dane will show payment status in Dane County the day after payment has been recorded.

Please note, the United States Postal Service has officially changed its internal procedures. Any USPS postmarks would be mechanically added after reaching the regional mail processing facility, which may be later than the day of placing payment in the mail.

Dane County Treasurer Adam Gallagher recommends, “Avoid unintended late payments by mailing property taxes earlier than you might have in prior years, by asking the USPS to hand stamp the postmark when you are at the counter before the due date, or by using an alternative payment method offered by your local treasurer.” Online bill pay of property taxes through your financial institution is often discouraged because that service regularly involves a 3rd party vendor mailing a physical check, which can further delay payment.

If late, there are two effects: (1) everything comes due immediately, and (2) there is a monthly 1.5% interest and penalty on any unpaid balance of the full bill starting February 1. Please check Access Dane or reach out to your local treasurer for property tax information.

Important: In accordance with state statutes, the Treasurer’s Office relies on USPS postmark to determine if a payment is paid on time. The cost of going delinquent is severe in that the entire tax bill comes due immediately with interest and penalty charges of 1.5 percent unpaid principal per month as of February 1.
